It is summer! I have some time to do what I want now, which is draw fancy dress items….

EDIT: coloured it too…. and fixed the dodgy leg action.. with some cheesy rocks ;D

I hope some of you get the Red Dead Redemption reference in the feverfew.

Terracotta magnolia tree

Today I finally got a chance to do some digital painting, I took this photo near my studio last week of a lovely magnolia tree peering over this old wall. I really liked the colours of the red buildings and the sky and the tree. I also made it into an arch for practice.

I used brushes from http://ani-r.deviantart.com/ who’s paintings are awesome. I used a very similar colour palette to some of Ani-r’s work as well, but I was really trying to use colours similar to the picture of ‘Abi in the clouds’ that I did a long time ago. Mainly though I was trying to exaggerate the heat and brightness of the scene I photographed, these are the colours that I think of when I imagine this place.

Home time

I am home! I haven’t been home since January 1st, and it is lovely. I have taken some holiday from work and have my new brief for college to be getting on with in the background, which I can actually do now that we have speedy internet thanks to the new AirPort Extreme (amusing official tagline: “Wireless to the extreme”. It certainly is…).

It’s time to do some things I haven’t had time for recently! Recently meaning since summer…. which is almost upon us again, so I’d better make good use of this holiday. I also have a suspicion I won’t be getting anymore of it in summer.

Oh also, I am getting a fancy SLR camera very soon, now that I’ve actually got space to store my photos! And I have Aperture 3 to play with too, oh yeah.

I made a little SOTC speed paint to test some new brushes this evening, but reverted back to my old favourites anyway… all to the sounds of Gears… angry angry noise

I made a new blogger blog for a uni project, the sweet shop game one… I will be updating it as I make pictures and animatics and research things. I think it is pretty enough to share, so far… I will probably ruin this soon – http://sweetlandgame.blogspot.com/

Also finished my critical studies case study blog on Lionhead – http://crs3casestudy.blogspot.com/ (nearly… ) and I get my mark for my first term on monday! How excited I am.

So I’m back at uni now, planned my work schedule from this week up until Christmas today. College plus 12 hours of energy-sapping work at the weekends, still no excuse for being MIA for over a month. But I am doing stuff… quite a bit actually. For starters I’m planning a game for uni (which I don’t get to finish during the course unfortunately, but one day maybe…) And now my house is full of lovely creative people many other things are in the pipe line…
